Owner Sergio Purtell graduated from Rhode Island School of Design (BFA in photography) and Yale (MFA in photography). He studied with Paul Krot (Sprint Systems of Photography) at RISD and Richard Benson, master printer, photographer and teacher, at Yale. His visual photographic language was formed by Harry Callahan and Tod Papageorge. Sergio has been printing for himself and other photographers since 1980 — his first printing job was for the Walker Evans estate. He opened Black and White on White to expand his services. Sergio brings his extensive education, training, experience and intelligent vision to every project. Collaborating with each client to get the best possible results, he offers his asthetic and technical knowledge.
Black and White on White's clients include fine art photographers, galleries, museums and estates—both national and international—for exhibitions, editions, portfolios, book prints, mural prints, book design, mounting, and framing. We offer alternative process and digital services under one roof. All work is treated with the utmost care and consideration.
